Barcelona is a wonderful European city and a great place to rent holiday apartments in Spain. Barcelona is one of the few cities you can visit all year long and rented self-catering holiday villas or apartments are an ideal city-base. Barcelona is a busy, vibrant city and one you will want to visit again and again. If you choose to book your holiday apartments in Spain or your villa holiday lettings in Barcelona you will not be disappointed with all there is to do and see. The wonderful architecture, the restaurants and cafes, the shops, even the beach! It is difficult to know where to start.
If you book your holiday villas or apartments in Barcelona, the following are a few of the recommended places to visit:
Las Ramblas – Anyone who rents holiday apartment in Spain in Barcelona should visit the well-known shopping area known as Las Ramblas. This is a long tree-lined street packed with street entertainers and market stalls selling anything and everything! The sights, sounds and colours you experience are wonderful ones you will never forget. There is a bird market on the second block of La Rambla which is worth a visit, as is the nearby Palau de la Virreina, a grand 18th-century rococo mansion where you can get information about arts and entertainment. Next door is the colourful Mercat de la Boqueria and further down the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the famous 19th-century opera house. Below the Plaa Reial, La Rambla becomes less salubrious, with strip clubs and peep shows and terminates at the Monument to Columbus and the harbour.
The Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic) – Immediately to the west of Las Ramblas is the Gothic Quarter, formerly known as the Cathedral Quarter. It is the centre of Barcelona, where the city originated, and where the main public buildings are located: the Palau de la Generalitat, the Town Hall, the Cathedraland the Palau Reial. It is an enjoyable area to wander round and one of the cheapest areas for apartment holiday lettings in Barcelona. The well-established bars and small cafes tucked into the old buildings make you feel like you've stepped back in time.
The Picasso Museum – If you rent holiday apartments in Spain to explore the varied cultural traditions of Barcelona you must not miss the Picasso Museum. Picasso was born in Malaga in 1881. He moved with his family to Barcelona at the age of 14 and city offered him great artistic opportunities. In 1897 he had his first public exhibition at the Quatre Gats. The museum has examples of work from Picasso's training period and some import pieces from his best years. One of the most famous works in the museum is the serie Las Meninas.
The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia – The architect Antoni Gaudi is the architect of the world-famous unfinished Sagrada Familia. Gaudi was born in Catalonia and his influence can be seen throughout the city. The ongoing construction of Sagrada Familia is paid for by tourism. When Sagrada Familia is complete, the church will have a total of 18 towers, each dedicated to a different religious figure, and each one hollow, allowing the placement of various types of bells. In the north of the city you will find Park Gell where you can see more of his work before returning to your holiday lettings in Barcelona for a siesta.
The Olympic Ring – The extensive area of the Montjuic hill between the Stadium Straight and the walls of the cemetery is called the Olympic Ring. The stadium was originally constructed in 1929 and was rebuilt, respecting the faade, for the 1992 Olympics. The Picornell swimming pools, originally built in 1969, were modernized. Two brand-new buildings were constructed: the Sant Jordi Sports Hall and the National Institute of Physical Education of Catalonia. Also integrated into this area is a new baseball ground and a monolith commemorating the Olympic Games by the engineer Santiago Calatrava. The stadium is a worthwhile place to visit for sports fans who book their holiday apartments in Spain in Barcelona.
