For those short on time, free online Spyware removal websites are an alternative to the more commonly used downloadable programs. TrendMicro, creator of the well-known HiJack This program, has created an online program known as HouseCall that scans your computer for vulnerabilities, fixes the problems it finds, and then produces a detailed and useful report. AVG is another credible company to produce a quality online Spyware removal tool. Their tool, Ewido's online scanner, does much the same thing as HouseCall.
There are of course the well-known antivirus companies, McAfee and Norton, who also offer online Spyware removal services. Even Microsoft provides a free online scanner for removing Spyware (Windows Live OneCare).
Some other well-known companies to provide online scanning sites include:

- Avast!
However, be careful when using online Spyware removal web sites. Some are actually fronts for Spyware themselves, while many others will only scan for you – the full version is required for the actual removal. Because scans often use ActiveX controls, which files can be used for malicious computer attacks, you may want to avoid unknown companies who provide such online scans.
There are many 3rd-party provided scans known to be dangerous, including:

Naturally, if a site tries to coerce you into using its scanner through popup windows or other gimmicks to prevent you from leaving the site, it is probably not the result of a genuine company.
Furthermore, make sure you are at the genuine company site, as some hackers have even created fake duplicates of authentic scanners. For example, a fake (and dangerous) version of TrendMicro's Housecall program exists.
If you come across the web site of a company you are not familiar with, do not provide information or use the service without first researching the company's background and authenticity. Don't put your computer at greater risk than the benefit such a scan would be producing.
