Tamarindo In Costa Rica – A Guide To Tamarindo

In Costa Rica, there are many spots which tourists like to go, over the next few days, I wanted to write about some of these places, since many clients tend to ask about what to do, how to get there, etc. In this article I’m going to talk about Tamarindo and it’s surroundings.

Tamarindo beach is in Guanacaste, on the North Pacific coast 4-5 hours driving, 30-45 minutes on a plane from San Jose. Also you can take your international flight to the Liberia Airport and then its 45 minutes from there.

There are public buses which you can take also from San Jose, try asking the hotel you are staying were to take them since they change routes every now and then. There are to companies that fly tourist, Sansa and Nature Air. Also if you want to rent a car it is possible to reach Tamarindo although it’s a really long drive.

In Tamarindo you will find two beaches, Playa Tamarindo and Playa Grande on the North. Playa Grande is part of a national park system, which enables turtles to nest from mid October to March protected from any aggressors.

You will find a number of things to do in Tamarindo, I will number a few since there are many. Sport fishing is one of their main attractions. There are over 6 species great for sport fishing such as the sailfish, marlin (blue, stripped and maybe black), Dorado, Snapper, etc. Most of the fishing companies are bilingual, so communication won’t be a problem. They provide all the required equipment, including baits, rigs, reel and anything else you might need.

If you like diving, you will find good spots here. You have Catalina Islands, Bat Islands, as well as other reefs wee you will find exuberant marine sea life. Amongst the animals you will find are manta rays, whitetip sharks, starfish, and many others. Just make sure they have the PADI certificate.

Sailing isn’t that huge, but you will find sailing tours near Tamarindo. Since the climate is mostly warm you will appreciate beautiful sunsets and relaxing afternoons. If you are lucky you might see dolphins, wales, turtles, etc. Usually they are full day tours which include food and drinks. They even let you snorkel if the sea is calm.

Surfing is great in the area, you have several, and by several I mean many spots including the world famous Witch’s Rock, considered in the top 20 around the globe.

Other tours are canopy, hiking, Baula Park, etc.

There are a huge number of hotels and restaurants, prizes vary, from cheap $10 cabins to five star hotels for $300 a night. Check the online listings for the one that best suits you.

This is a tourist town so everyone speaks English and you will find many information centers, don’t be afraid to ask, we are here to help you have fun!
