Get Away in October; it?s a Great Time to Take a Break

October is a beautiful time of year in many parts of the world. It is
also a very convenient and easy time to take a holiday.  The peak tourist season in many places ends
in September.  This means smaller crowds
at the airports as well as fewer visitors at choice attractions.  Additionally, the change of season also
brings with it significant travel discounts that are available for many
locales.  In October, a fun, relaxing
holiday can also be a cheap holiday.

October is a perfect time to visit France.  The children are back in school, and the
orange, red, and amber hues of France’s stunning woodlands make for a scenic
and dreamy getaway.  While the entire
country is lovely, the city of Nice offers superb weather with average
temperatures ranging between 15.5 to 18 degrees and less average rainfall
(approximately eight days during the month) than in other major French
cities.

While in Nice visit the Cours Saleya Flower Market, it is open six days
a week (closed in favour of a flea market
on Mondays) and the best time to visit is in the early morning.  It is full of vendors selling the finest
local produce and seemingly innumerable flowers.  The market is also a great place to purchase
souvenirs or to sip a refreshing beverage in one of their quaint cafes.  Remember to have small denominations of
currency with you as the merchants tend to resist giving change even if it
means turning away a sale.

Another destination for excellent
but cheap holiday deals in October is Greece.
With the traditional tourist period ending by October, there are some
great deals to be had. The weather is still dry as the rainy season doesn’t
start until November. The average temperatures run several degrees cooler than
in the summer months ranging between 16-20 degrees based on your location
within the island nation.   The month of
October is dotted with holidays and festivals and has ?named’ days occurring
throughout the month each with its own cultural significance and celebration.  Highlighted by the national holiday of Ochi
day, which falls on October 28th annually, this makes October an
especially exciting and rewarding time to visit the region.

Once in Greece, Athens is the city
to visit if sightseeing is your goal.
With such legendary attractions as the Acropolis and Parthenon, the
National Archaeological Museum and Cape Sounion, the Temple of Poseidon to
visit, you will not be disappointed. Athens is one of the top cities in the
world for studying ancient culture and history.

However, if you are looking for more
of a relaxing time during the day and party at night type of holiday, Crete is
your island of choice.  While Crete is
home to its own fair share of historical venues, it is also very fortunate in
having several picturesque beaches, many shopping opportunities, and a very
active nightlife scene with numerous clubs and bars in all of the larger towns.

Other great October destinations
that warrant a mention are Madrid, Spain, and Turin, Italy or for something
closer to home, consider the Isle of Wight. Not quite so glamorous perhaps but
a great place for a quiet relaxing break.

October is a perfect time to take
any of these trips as the weather is beautiful, the crowds are significantly
reduced at the airports and tourist attractions, and you can find exceptional
deals on airfares, local dining , and lodging options.
